Wouldn’t it be something if the son of legendary NC State quarterback Philip Rivers decided to suit up at the same position in Raleigh?

Well… momentum is moving in that direction.

247Sports recruiting analyst Michael Clark has submitted a Crystal Ball projection for 4-star 2027 quarterback Gunner Rivers to commit to NC State. That prediction follows ON3 Vice President of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong, who made the same call back on February 5th.

Two national-level recruiting analysts pointing toward Raleigh.

That’s not nothing.

Video Game Numbers

Rivers put up eye-popping numbers this past season for St. Michael Catholic as a junior:

  • 69.1% completion percentage
  • 3,176 passing yards
  • 46 touchdowns
  • 5 interceptions
  • 131.8 NFL passer rating

Forty-six touchdowns. Five picks.

Recruiting Profile

Rivers currently holds offers from:

  • NC State
  • Auburn
  • Georgia
  • Miami
  • Boston College
  • South Carolina
  • Missouri

According to 247Sports, he ranks as:

  • #42 overall player nationally (2027 class)
  • #6 quarterback nationally
  • #1 player in Alabama

That’s blue-chip territory.

What It Would Mean for NC State

If Rivers were to commit to NC State, he would become:

  • The 12th highest-rated prospect to commit to the Wolfpack in the 247Sports database era
  • The 2nd highest-rated recruit under Dave Doeren, trailing only unanimous 1st Team All-American linebacker Payton Wilson

Landing Rivers wouldn’t just be symbolic because of the last name.

It would be a legitimate recruiting win on a national scale.

And yes…it would also make for one of the coolest full-circle stories in college football.

Momentum is building.

Now we wait.
