JEFF GOODMAN: “I don’t think this (Will Wade) thing is 100% done yet.”

Jeff Goodman injected a little hopium into the NC State fan base…

“The big question is, again, is he going to get enough resources at NC State?”

“I think NC State will come back with another offer and get the highest number they can in Iowa to try to compete with LSU’s offer. And if they do that, I still think Will Wade has a chance to stay. I don’t think this thing is 100% done yet, from everything I’ve been told.I think, again, this is ongoing right now. Will’s going to weigh both options and try to figure out is there a big disparity from one to the other.”

Now, if Wade takes it to the bitter end and accepts NC State’s offer, then I’ll be of the belief that this was his plan from the very beginning. He needs to find a way to max out NC State NIL if he wants to compete with UNC and Duke every year. Heck, schools like Kentucky have NIL budgets of over $20 million. Meanwhile, NC State worked with about $10M this year.

What a roller coaster ride this is.

Let’s play Goodman’s game. Say Boo counters (or has countered) and increases Wade’s contract and NIL budget at the last second. Wade will know that it NC State’s best offer. He will have used leverage to get the money he felt he needed.

However, there is still a ton of smoke around the LSU job. In fact, Jon Rothstein just said he believed Wade is heading there and it will happen within the next couple of days. I think the big thing there is his buddies from McNeese Wade Rousse and Heath Schroyer, the two guys who gave him the shot at McNeese are being put in place at LSU. If Schroyer really is coming on board, you’d have to believe it’s a foregone conclusion that Wade ends up there.
