Hofstra 4-Star Point Guard Preston Edmead (6’1″/170) is Transferring to NC State!

Back on April 7th, we mentioned Edmead was a name NC State would target, and that’s exactly how this played out.

Edmead fits the mold to a tee. He’s not the biggest guard at 6’1, but he brings a relentless, havoc-creating style that makes him incredibly tough to keep out of the paint. He’s a pest with the ball in his hands, constantly applying pressure and forcing defenses to react. At Hofstra, he averaged 16.1 points, 4.4 assists and 3.5 assists, while shooting 39% from three, showing he can both create and knock down shots at a high level.

In his Freshman season, Edmead earned 2nd Team All-CAA honors, while also being named the CAA Rookie of the Year.

Stylistically, he looks a lot like the type of guards that thrived at Tennessee under Justin Gainey’s tutelage…guys like Ja’Kobi Gillespie and Zakai Zeigler. Smaller, ultra-quick, aggressive guards who can get downhill and score it.

That blueprint has worked at the lead guard spot under Gainey in Knoxville, and now you’re seeing him bring the same type of Guard with him to Raleigh.

Edmead is now Gainey’s second pick-up out of the Portal, joining Santa Clara Transfer Guard Christian Hammond. The duo of Edmead and Hammond looks to be a formidable backcourt for Justin Gainey heading into his first season as the Head Coach of the Wolfpack.
