NC State secured a commitment from Boise State transfer RJ Keene II this afternoon. The 6-foot-7, 212-pound guard has one season of eligibility remaining after entering the transfer portal.

A native of The Woodlands, Texas, Keene spent five seasons at Boise State. In the 2025-26 season, he appeared in 31 games (24 starts) and averaged 2.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.9 assists in 22.2 minutes per game. He shot 38.0% from the field and 34.5% (19-55) from three-point range.

But none of these numbers tell the real story of who Keene really is. He’s a team first defensive specialist who owns his minutes by shutting down his opponent. (We will have a full article on his defensive metrics/ impact shortly.)

Over his Boise State career, he appeared in 88 games with 35 starts.

Keene was a three-year starter at Concordia Lutheran High School (Tomball, Texas). He helped lead the Crusaders to an 84-18 record and three consecutive district championships. He scored more than 2,000 points in his prep career and earned two-time all-state honors.

As a senior, he averaged 19 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 4.2 assists and was a finalist for the Guy V. Lewis Award (top boys’ basketball player in the Greater Houston Area). As a junior, he averaged 20 points, six rebounds, three assists, and two steals while making 135 three-pointers (10th-most nationally). He was a three-star recruit, ranked as the 11th-best prospect in Texas and No. 46 shooting guard nationally by ESPN.

His father, Richard Keene, played basketball at Illinois from 1992-96.

Earlier this past season, Keene dropped 8 points and 5 rebounds on the Wolfpack in Maui.

Keene brings size, defensive versatility, rebounding, and experience to head coach Justin Gainey’s roster. His ability to stretch the floor and contribute as a high-character, tough competitor should provide valuable depth for the Wolfpack next season.
