Former NC State All-American wrestler Tommy Gantt made a statement in his UFC debut tonight.
A violent one.
Gantt defeated Artur Minev via second-round TKO at the 2:51 mark after overwhelming Minev with ground-and-pound punches from back control.
From the opening exchange until the finish, Gantt controlled the fight.
Completely.
Wrestling Pressure Never Stopped
Gantt’s wrestling background immediately translated to the UFC stage.
He racked up:
6 takedowns
Constant clinch control
Relentless forward pressure
Whenever Minev managed to get back to his feet, Gantt suffocated him with underhooks and nonstop movement.
There was no breathing room.
And in the clinch, Gantt punished Minev with brutal knees while methodically wearing him down.
More Than Just a Wrestler
What stood out most?
Gantt looked far more complete than just a takedown specialist.
The former Wolfpack standout actually outstruck Minev 72 significant strikes to 28
That development isn’t accidental. Gantt has been training under UFC legend Daniel Cormier, and the influence is obvious. The pressure, chain wrestling, clinch control, and striking composure all looked polished tonight.
Rapid Rise
With the win, Gantt improves to 12-0 professionally
That’s even crazier when you realize:
He made his professional debut in April of 2024
He has already fought 13 times (including one no contest)
At 33 years old, Gantt appears determined to sprint up the UFC ladder and prove that a fighter can still make a late-career rise after debuting past age 30.
And honestly?
Tonight Gantt looked like someone worth paying attention to.
Calling His Shot
After the victory, Gantt called out lightweight Charlie Campbell (9-3).
If the UFC gives him that matchup next?
