PG Devonte Graham Released from App, Pack on the Prowl

Published

on

With Tyler Lewis transferring to Butler, NC State is in need of another PG to team with sophomore starter Cat Barber. Lucky for them, a very good one just came on the market and the Pack has the hometown advantage.

Devonte Graham is a 4 start PG (originally out of Broughton High in Raleigh) who makes plays on both ends of the court. He’s a leader, a game manager and oozing with talent. He is 6’2, 175lbs and super quick. He can get to the hoop, has elite vision and also can keep you honest with his 3 ball. So why was he going to App State in the first place? We’ll explain…

Graham played for a public school (Broughton HS in Raleigh) and really didn’t get all that much exposure. He also played for Garner Road AAU, which isn’t one of the big names in the circuit. He just was an under the radar type player who didn’t generate much hype on a national stage. So without many high majors showing interest, Graham decided on App State.

He then transferred high schools and started playing ball at Brewster Academy (where TJ Warren also played). All of the sudden people started seeing what Graham could do. He was dominant when surrounded by supreme talent and all of the sudden the big dogs started coming at him.

With all the added attention, Graham tried to open up his options and get out of his LOI to App State. Then coach Jason Capel had other ideas and refused to release him. Capel accused NC State in particular of tampering with Graham after his commitment.

Capel has since been fired and new head coach Jim Fox said yesterday that Devonte would be released and free to attend the school of his choice.

We’ll have to wait and see what happens here, but Gottfried wants this kid bad and will make sure the Pack is in the mix until the end. Stay tuned to PackInsider.com for more updates on this situation…

He also holds offers from Georgetown, Georgia Tech, Providence, Auburn, Rutgers, Illinois, Texas A&M, Mississippi St, Wake Forest, Florida, LSU, Ole Miss, Arizona St, Kansas, Georgia, Texas, Tennessee, Arkansas, and others.

As far as I can tell, Howard doesn’t hold an offer from NC State at this point.

Top-25 2024 SG Paul McNeil is Taking an Official Visit to NC State Next Weekend

Published

on

2024 4-Star Shooting Guard Paul McNeil (6’6″/185) will be taking an Official Visit to NC State next weekend.

ESPN ranks McNeil as the #17 overall player nationally in the 2024 recruiting class, and the #2 player in the state of North Carolina. I don’t understand how recruiting databases work, but at some point this year he will be a 5-star player according to ESPN as long as he stays in the Top-25.

McNeil plays for Richmond Senior in Rockingham, North Carolina.

This is huge for NC State to get a player of McNeil’s caliber to come in for an Official Visit this early in the process.
