The Colts like what they have in former NC State quarterback Jacoby Brissett, recently turning down two trades for the backup quarterback.

“He’s committed, he’s a great teammate, he’s got juice, he holds people accountable, he holds himself accountable. I love Jacoby,” Ballard said, via Stephen Holder of the Indianapolis Star. “Jacby Brissett is going to play in this league a long time. If I learned anything last year, it was the value of a backup quarterback who can get it done, and I think Jacoby can do that.” (Yahoo)

Brissett is a steal of a deal for the Colts at this point, with 2-years remaining on his rookie contract ($735,000 this year and $890,000 next year).

The Colts say that they expect Andrew Luck to be ready for the start of the season, but at this point he hasn’t even picked up a football. We are talking about a beyond lengthy recovery period, and changing of throwing mechanics with Luck.

With the unknown future of Luck, keeping Brissett in Indianapolis is a priority for the Colts.
