Lorenzo Brown Set To Sign 1-Year Deal with the Toronto Raptors

Published

on

Former NC State point guard Lorenzo Brown is set to sign a 1-year contract with the Toronto Raptors.

Brown has had 5 tours in the G-Leauge, and 4 partial stints in the NBA. We aren’t sure of the exact details of the contract, but it doesn’t look like it’s a 2-way contract.

In 107 career games played in the G-League over the past 5 seasons, Brown has averaged 18.5 points, 6.3 assists and 5.4 rebounds per game. In 77 career games in the NBA, Brown has averaged 3 points, 2 assists and 2 rebounds in an average of 12.6 minutes played.

This past season, Brown was the MVP of the G-League with the 905 Raptors.

NC State’s 2018 NFL Preseason Week 2 Report: 8/20/18

Published

on

Last night two former NC State football players suited up together for the Indianapolis Colts in their 19-20 loss to the Baltimore Ravens to close out Week 2 of the NFL 2018 Preseason.

Andrew Luck is still shaking off the rust, but former Wolfpack quarterback Jacoby Brissett (3rd Season) looked the part of a starter, completing 14 of his 23 pass attempts for 172 yards.

In an interesting turn of events, it was reported earlier that the Seattle Seahawks offered a 2nd round pick for Brissett, but Colts GM Chris Ballard is denying it.

While Brissett shined, former NC State running back Nyheim Hines (Rookie) continued to struggle holding onto the ball. Hines has now fumbled the ball 4 times in the first two preseason games. He rushed the ball 5 times for 12 yards, and had 1 reception for 9 yards. Hines also returned 4 kickoffs for an average of 23 yards, and 3 punts for an average of 5 yards.

Hines had seemingly snagged the return man duties as a rookie, but with 4 fumbles in the first two preseason games, his grip on that position might be in serious question.

Seahawks Offered 2nd Round Pick for Jacoby Brissett

Published

on

According to NFL.com, the Seattle Seahawks offered the Indianapolis Colts a 2nd round pick for former NC State quarterback Jacoby Brissett.

The Colts rejected the overture, in keeping with owner Jim Irsay’s early August declaration that his organization would not part with “the best backup quarterback in football,” even if the offer was as steep as a first-round pick. (NFL)

The interest in Brissett isn’t new. On the day of the 2018 NFL Draft earlier this year, two teams tried to work out a deal with the Colts for Brissett.

With Andrew Luck injured last season, Brissett played in all 16 games (starting 15). He completed 58.8% of his passes for 3,098 yards, throwing 13 touchdowns compared to 7 interceptions.

Under Brissett’s rookie contract, he will earn $735,076 for 2018 and is scheduled to earn $890,114 in 2019.

Though Luck is back in the fold, his health is far from a guarantee. The Colts are wanting to keep the best insurance possible, and they believe that’s found in Brissett, who they think is the best backup quarterback in the NFL, and he comes at a low cost.

Trea Turner’s power / speed combo puts him in MLB history books

Published

on

Former NC State (and current Washington Nationals) SS, Trea Turner, is having what has become a historic season.

So why hasn’t there been more hype around the 25-year-old?

Well, last year in an injury-shortened season (412 ABs), Turner was on an even torrid pace. He batted .284, hit 11 HRs and stole 46 bases. That was coming off a 2016 season where, in just 324 ABs he hit an insane .342 with 33 HRs and 33 steals.

Those type of numbers have made some see his 2018 numbers as a sort of letdown.

After last night’s big game (2-5, HR, 3 RBIs) Turner is hitting .268 with 15 HRs in 504 ABs. He’s also stolen 32 bases. While he’s shown a better pace in the past, the current pace is actually good enough to land him in the MLB record books.

Trea Turner is already showing historic power/speed combo numbers, but his past numbers show, this might just be the beginning of what is possible for the young SS.
