Three More Former NC State Swimmers Earn Spots on 2024 Olympic Teams

Former NC State Swimmers Katharine Berkhoff and Ryan Held will represent the United States this Summer in Paris at the 2024 Summer Olympics.

Three other former Wolfpack Swimmers will represent their respective countries in Paris as well.

This marks the 3rd time Sophie Hansson has made the Swedish Olympic Team (2016 & 2020). She will be swimming in the 100 & 200 Breaststroke. Hansson still holds the NC State record in both events, setting the records back in 2022. She was also a part of the team that set the school record in the 4×100 Medley Relay, which included Berkhoff. Hansson also was a part of the team that set the school record for the 200 Free Relay.

At NC State, Hansson was a 22-time All-American. She was a 4-time ACC Champion in the 100 Breaststroke, and a 3-time Conference Champ in the 200 Breaststroke. Hansson was also a part of ACC Champion Relay teams in the 400 Medley Relay, 200 Medley Relay and 200 Freestyle Relay.

This is Nyls Korstanje’s 2nd time representing the Netherlands in the Olympics (2020). He will be swimming in the the 100 Butterfly.

Korstanje ranks 2nd in NC State history in the 50 Free & 100 Butterfly. As a member of the Wolfpack, he was a 22-time All-American. In 2020, Korstanje won the ACC Championship in the 50 Free & 100 Free, and was a 10-time ACC Champ when you include Relays.

This marks the 4th time that Andreas Vazaios has represented Greece in the Olympics (2012, 2016, 2020, 2024). Vazaios has been to the Olympics more than any other former NC State Swimmer.

Vazaios was a 14-time All-American at NC State. He ranks 1st in NC State history in the 200 Butterfly, the 200 IM and the 800 Free Relay. Vazaios ranks 2nd in the 200 Free. While at NC State, Vazaios was the ACC Champ 2x in Men’s 200 IM and the Men’s 200 Butterfly, and was a part of 3 ACC Championship Relay Teams.

NC State Swimming & Diving Olympians

22 former NC State Swimmers and Divers have been Olympians. Only 8 of the 22 have represented their countries as Olympians 2+ times, with Ryan Held, Sophie Hansson, Nyls Korstanje & Andreas Vazaios being 4 of them.
