Former NC State Tennis Player Diana Shnaider is Playing in the Gold Medal Match

Former NC State Women’s Tennis player Diana Shnaider will be playing in the Gold Medal Match tomorrow for Women’s Doubles at 6am.

Shnaider and her partner Mira Andreeva, will be facing off against Italy’s  Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini. She is competing as an Individual Neutral Athlete in Paris.

Prior to the 2024 Paris Olympics, no NC State Women’s Tennis player had gone on to be an Olympian.

Shnaider is the first.

She has already guaranteed herself a medal, by advancing to the Gold Medal match, making her the first former Wolfpack Tennis player to bring home a medal.

If Shnaider and Andreeva can win tomorrow morning against the Italians, she will become only the 8th former NC State athlete ever to win a Gold Medal in the Summer Olympics.

Shnaider spent one year at NC State (2022-23) before turning professional. In that one season, she boasted a record of 20-3, earning 1st Team All-ACC honors, as well as earning the ACC Freshman of the Year Award. She advanced to the NCAA Tournament, and was named an ITA All-American in both Singles and Doubles. She finished her one year at NC State ranked 4th nationally. Shnaider helped the Wolfpack Women win their first ever ACC Championship.
