NC State Redshirt Sophomore Running Back Hollywood Smothers had a career day on Saturday, rushing for a career-high 140 yards in the Wolfpack’s 35-31 win over Virginia.

Smothers’ previous career high was 139 yards in the Military Bowl against ECU last season.

Against the Cavaliers, Smothers averaged 8.2 yards per carry and found the end zone twice.

Through two games, he is averaging 108 rushing yards per game, which ranks second in the ACC behind Louisville’s Isaac Brown (115 yards per game).

Smothers’ output on Saturday was arguably one of the best rushing performances by an NC State player in over seven years. The last time a Wolfpack player rushed for 130+ yards and scored two rushing touchdowns was in 2018, when Reggie Gallaspy ran for 220 yards and two touchdowns against East Carolina.
