Boo Corrigan held a press conference yesterday to address the exodus of head coach Will Wade. Corrigan, who is normally fairly stoic, showed his cards, even if it was through subtle zingers directed at Wade.

Here are my favorites:

“I just want to thank everyone for coming out today. I think Philip Rivers said it, right? In thinking about who we are, what we are, the Wolfpack ain’t for soft people. We’re going to go find a coach that agrees and understands who we are and what we are.”

BOO…coming out of the gate swinging! Calling Will Wade soft, without actually explicitly stating it, using the words of Wolfpack legend Philip Rivers…PRICELESS.

“I think we saw this year, maybe if some of our players were four inches taller, it could have been a little bit better, right? No shade on our players this year, but the importance of a rim protector has really become something more definitive in college basketball. We need to make sure that we have someone to come in here that knows how to build a roster, knows how to put the pieces together in the right way to have a very competitive team.”

Let’s face it…Wade built a roster this season that was cattywampus. Ven-Allen Lubin was a bright spot, outperforming expectations, but when you’re starting center is 6’9″ in this era of college basketball, you’re in trouble. Wade thought the late addition of Musa Sagnia was the missing piece, standing 6’10,” but Sagnia often proved to be a liability when he was on the court.

Corrigan managed to express gratitude for what this team accomplished this season, while also subtly calling out Wade’s inability to build a roster that was set up to succeed.

“And finding someone that just connects, right, that fits in with who we are, believes in what we do at NC State, is a heck of a coach. I’m going to clean my language up, a heck of a coach,”

Without calling out Wade for his foul mouth, it seems like Corrigan made a point to cast a vision for cleaning things up in the future.

“I’m a handshake guy, you know?”

Will Wade resigned by having his agent send an email, after no-showing a face-to-face meeting with Corrigan. When asked if he would have preferred Wade given the news face-to-face, Corrigan said he was a “handshake guy.” Aka, he would have preferred Wade sit across the table, look him in the eyes, and have an adult conversation like grown men should.
