NC State (30-18, 12-13) dropped the series opener at Stanford (24-22, 11-14) on Friday night, falling 6-5 in a late comeback attempt that fell just short.

With ace Ryan Marohn sidelined by injury, junior  Cooper Consiglio delivered another strong Friday night start. Consiglio threw a quality start, allowing just two earned runs over 6⅓ innings while striking out eight. He left the game with the score tied 2-2.

Unfortunately, sophomore reliever Ryder Garino struggled in relief, surrendering four earned runs in just 1⅓ innings of work.

The Wolfpack mounted a rally in the top of the ninth, scoring two runs to pull within one, but could not complete the comeback.

Offensive Standouts

Junior third baseman Sherman Johnson was NC State’s clear offensive star, going 3-for-3 with two runs scored, three RBI, and two walks. He finished a triple shy of the cycle.

Freshman shortstop Christian Serrano continued his hot hitting, collecting two hits in four at-bats.

The Wolfpack’s junior second baseman Luke Nixon, who entered the night batting .358, went 2-for-4 to push his average even higher.

Sophomore infielder Mikey Ryan, returning from injury, delivered a clutch RBI single as a pinch hitter in the ninth inning as part of the late rally.
