Former NC State All-American wrestler Thomas Gantt is officially set to make his UFC debut on Saturday night in Las Vegas during a UFC Fight Night event.

The event will air on Paramount+, with Gantt expected to compete in the prelims.

From Raleigh to the UFC

Gantt earned his UFC contract back in September on Dana White’s Contender Series, securing a first-round guillotine choke submission at the 2:47 mark.

At the time, Gantt improved to 11-0 as a professional MMA fighter.

One of the more notable parts of his rise? He’s been training with UFC legend Daniel Cormier, who was in his corner during the Contender Series victory.

Rapid Rise

While Gantt is getting a later start than many UFC prospects, making his debut at age 33, his activity level has been relentless.

Since making his professional debut on April 6, 2024, Gantt has fought 11 times in just over a year.

That’s not a slow climb.

That’s speed-running an MMA career.

Saturday’s Matchup

This weekend at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Gantt (11-0) is scheduled to face undefeated Ukrainian lightweight Artur Miniev (7-0).

Originally, Gantt was expected to fight Trey Ogden, but Ogden withdrew due to injury. Miniev stepped in on just five days’ notice.

While the matchup is not currently listed on the official UFC card lineup, MMA Junkie reports the fight is expected to take place as part of the prelims.

From All-American wrestler in Raleigh…to NC State Assistant Coach…to the UFC stage in Las Vegas…Thomas Gantt’s journey has been anything but ordinary.
