In 2022, Former NC State All-American Pitcher Carlos Rodon Posted His Best Year-to-Date

Published

on

Former NC State All-American Pitcher Carlos Rodon just wrapped up his 8th season in the MLB, and it was arguably the best season of his career.

Rodon finished 2022 with a 14-8 record in his 1st year (and likely only year) in San Francisco, with a 2.88 ERA. He struck out 237 batters in 178 innings, and his WHIP was 1.03.

His 14 wins were a career high, as were the 237 strikeouts.

Rodon finished the regular season ranked 8th in the NL in ERA, 2nd in K’s, and 9th in WHIP.

Maybe the most important stat this year was the fact that he started a career high 31 games, which is significant, considering the fact that Rodon has had a hard time staying healthy throughout his career.

After 2020, Rodon was looking to to be without a job, but the White Sox gave him a 1-year contract that wasn’t guaranteed. He would have to prove himself, and prove himself he did.

Rodon has been named to the All-Star team the past two seasons, after not earning All-Star honors his first 6 seasons.

In 2021, the Giants inked Rodon to a 2-year $44 million contract, with all of the money guaranteed. But here’s the catch…he could opt out of the 2nd year of the contract if he pitched at least 110 innings.

Most people expect Rodon to bet on himself, opting out of the 2nd year of the contract, and find a bigger pay day elsewhere.

The Eagles Drafted NC State Center Dylan McMahon in the 6th Round

Published

NC State Center Dylan McMahon was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 6th round of the 2024 NFL Draft, taken with the 190th overall pick.

McMahon was a 4-year starter at NC State, starting in 43 of the 48 games he has played in. Instead of returning for his final year of eligibility, McMahon bet on himself, and it looks like it paid off.

At the NFL Combine, McMahon ranked in the Top-10 in 4 of the 5 events, and in the Top-5 in 3 of them.

3-Cone – 7.26 seconds (2nd)
Shuttle – 4.33 seconds (2nd)
Broad Jump – 9’7″ (4th)
Vertical – 33.0″ (8th)
40 Yard Dash – 5.10 seconds (20)

I’m not attempting to be prophetic, but for perspective, 13 years ago, Jason Kelce was taken in the 6th round with the 191st overall pick.

The Pittsburgh Steelers Select NC State’s Payton Wilson with the 98th Pick in the 2024 NFL Draft

Published

on

The Pittsburgh Steelers have selected NC State Linebacker Payton Wilson in the 3rd Round of the 2024 NFL Draft, with the 98th overall pick.

How on earth Wilson was the 98th player drafted is beyond me. Winner of the ACC Defensive Player of the Year. Winner of the Butkus Award, given to the best Linebacker in College Football. Winner of the Bednarik Award, given to the best Defensive player in College football. Unanimous All-American. 3rd best PFF Grade by a Linebacker in 2023. Fastest 40-time by a LB at the NFL Combine.

Yet, he was the 7th Linebacker taken in the 2024 NFL Draft. Absurd.

With that being said, I can’t think of a more fitting place for Wilson to play. He was born to play in the Black and Gold. The Steelers are a blue collar club, who carry a long history of defensive greatness. Wilson plays with reckless abandon, and with his hair on fire, and that’s exactly what you expect out of a Pittsburgh Linebacker.

Maybe I’m showing my cards here…I’m a Pittsburgh Steelers fan…and I can’t believe Payton Wilson will be wearing the Black and Gold this Fall.

Congrats Payton!
