Today we spoke with Redshirt Freshman Tight End Damien Darden after NC State’s practice, and he talked about what it means to him to start in his first ever college football game this Saturday against James Madison. Above is the video and below are the BULLETED highlights.

  • I can’t wait. It’s going to be an adrenaline rush. But I’ll have to stay poised and stay focused on the game.
  • Committed to NC State the Summer going into my Junior year. Was second guy to commit. This place was home for me. There was no point in doing visits anywhere else.
  • Being redshirted, and being on the Scout team, I had to block Bradley Chubb and Kentavius Street every day. It made me a whole lot better. Got bigger and stronger.
  • Cole Cook was a great leader. Our biggest leader on the team. Watching how he went about his business, was a blessing. He never made a mistake.
  • In high school catching the ball was all I did. I was a receiving Tight End.
  • It means a lot to be a starter in my first game. Just took advantage of the opportunity that was presented. The coaches believe in me. Thankful they believe in me enough to put us in there on Saturdays.

Since this is Darden’s first time playing for the Wolfpack, here’s his Highlight Reel from his Senior Season at Aycock High School (Pikeville, NC)

In case you missed it, here’s our Tight Ends Position Preview.
