NC State Senior Safety Devan Boykin is entering the Transfer Portal. Boykin has 1 year of eligibility remaining.

On December 10th, it was announced that Boykin had re-signed with Savage Wolves, to return to NC State in 2025. Apparently, he changed his mind.

Boykin missed the entire 2024 football season, recovering from a torn ACL that he suffered in Bowl prep in 2023.

Losing Boykin for the year was no small thing. In 2023 he was the Wolfpack’s starting Strong Safety. He was the 5th highest graded player on the Wolfpack’s defense according to PFF, with the best Run Defense Grade and the 3rd highest Tackling Grade. His 54 tackles ranked 4th on the team, and he was tied for the team lead in interceptions with 3.

Boykin was expected to play at some point this season. At the beginning of the year, Wolfpack Head Coach Dave Doeren thought he would end up on the field sometime in October. Then, at the end of September, Doeren was hopeful he would be available for the final 4 regular season games. If he would have only played in the final 4 games of the regular season, he would have still been able to redshirt the year. Nonetheless, Boykin didn’t suit up at all this year, but was a leader in the locker room and the sideline. Maybe Boykin never got back to 100%, or maybe when he reached that point, there was no need risking it and losing the chance to play a full season, with Bishop Fitzgerald and DK Kaufman settled in.

Boykin was expected to be one of NC State’s starting Safeties in 2025.

Boykin is 1 of 14 NC State players to enter the Transfer Portal this year.
