Contract Details for NC State Football Assistant Coaches After New Hires, Extensions and Promotions

Since the new year, NC State has hired 2 new Assistant Coaches, extended the contracts of 4 assistant coaches and promoted 3 to new positions. We obtained the contracts of all of the NC State Assistant Football Coaches through filing a Freedom of Information Act request. Below are the details of the contract of each of the Wolfpack’s Assistant Football Coaches and Strength and Conditioning staff.

All of the contracts of the Wolfpack’s Assistant Football Coaches now run through the 2026 season.

New Hires

Defensive Coordinator & Linebackers Coach DJ Eliot was hired to replace Tony Gibson, who is the new Head Coach at Marshall. Eliot will be paid $900,000 annually.

Safeties/Nickels Coach & Co-Defensive Co-Coordinator Charlton Warren was hired to replace Nickels Coach Freddie Aughtry-Lindsay (now the DC at Sam Houston) and Safeties Coach Joe DeForest (who retired). Warren will be paid $470,000 in 2025, and $530,000 in 2026.

Promotions

Kurt Roper was promoted from Quarterbacks Coach to Offensive Coordinator, replacing Robert Anae. Roper will be paid $900,000 annually.

Gavin Locklear was promoted from a Quality Control Coach to the Tight Ends Coach, replacing Robert Anae, who not only served as the Offensive Coordinator, but also the Tight End’s Coach. Locklear will paid $275,000 annually.

Elisha Shaw was promoted from a part-time role to a full-time Defensive Line Assistant Coach role. Shaw’s annual salary will be $275,000.

Extensions with Raise

Offensive Line Coach Garett Tujague’s contract was extended 1 year. He was given a raise of $15,900 annually, bringing his salary up to $545,900.

Cornerbacks Coach Brian Mitchell’s contract was extended 1 year. He was given a raise of $62,795 annually, brining his salary up to $500,000.

Wide Receivers Coach Joker Phillips’ contract was extended 1 year. He was given a raise of $14,700 annually, brining his salary to $504,700.

Defensive Line Coach Charley Wiles’ contract was extended 1 year. He was given a raise of $15,000 annually, bringing his salary to $515,000.

Contract Details of other Assistant Coaches

Running Backs & Special Teams Coach Todd Goebbel’s annual salary is $560,000, and he is under contract through the 2026 season.

Special Assistant to the Head Coach Ruffin McNeill’s annual salary is $150,000, and his contract is an “at-will” appointment.

Contract Details of Strength & Conditioning Staff

Director of Strength and Conditioning Dantonio Burnette’s annual salary is $497,664, and he is under contract through the 2026 season.

Associate Director of Strength and Conditioning Brandon Howard’s annual salary is $120,000.

Assistant Director of Strength and Conditioning Michael Solomon’s annual salary is $100,000.

Strength & Conditioning Coach Ian Walker’s annual salary is $85,000.
