Former NC State All-American catcher Patrick Bailey did something that hadn’t been done by an MLB catcher since 1926: he hit a walk-off inside-the-park home run.

With the Giants trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the 9th inning, Bailey hit a shot to right-center that nearly cleared the fence, bouncing off the bricks too quickly for the center fielder to catch up to in time.

The result?

Both runners on base crossed home plate, as did Bailey — who isn’t exactly known for being a speedy baserunner.

Bailey is only the third MLB catcher on record to hit a walk-off inside-the-park home run.

As the Wolfpack’s catcher, Bailey earned ACC Rookie of the Year, Second Team All-ACC, and Freshman All-American honors in 2018, as well as First Team All-ACC and Third Team All-American honors in 2019 (Collegiate Baseball). He finished his three-year career at NC State with a .318 batting average and a 1.050 OPS.
