Former NC State Wide Receiver Dacari Collins is transferring to Louisville.

News broke on Monday that Collins was entering the Transfer Portal. He was supposed to visit UCLA this weekend, and Baylor on Monday, but Collins swung by Louisville for a visit before hand, and the rest is history.

Collins spent his first two seasons at Clemson before transferring to NC State in 2023. After reeling in 16 catches for 221 yards as a true freshman for the Tigers, Collins left the program after playing only 63 snaps through the first three games of 2022.

As a member of the Wolfpack, Collins saw his workload increase substantially from Year 1 to Year 2. As a redshirt sophomore, Collins had 14 receptions for 212 yards and 2 touchdowns in 12 games, playing 280 snaps in 2023. Last season, he caught 24 passes for 314 yards and 2 touchdowns in 12 games, logging 432 snaps. His PFF grade increased from 65.4 to 69.1 from Year 1 to Year 2 in Raleigh. After starting only four games in 2023, Collins started every game for the Wolfpack last season.

While Collins may have ranked fifth in receiving yards and tied for fourth in receptions, he had the second-most snaps of any wide receiver and was the leader in the position room, being the elder statesman. One of the reasons Collins saw the field as much as he did was because he boasted a run-blocking grade of 77.7 from PFF — the highest grade on the team.

In my humble opinion, throughout much of last season, I wondered why Wesley Grimes wasn’t starting on the outside opposite Noah Rogers instead of Collins. The exodus of Collins opens the door for more athletic playmakers to see the field, but that doesn’t mean his absence won’t be felt.

In losing Collins, the Wolfpack has now lost its oldest and most experienced wide receiver — and easily its best run-blocking receiver.

Collins has one year of eligibility remaining.

Collins is 1 of 20 NC State players to enter the Transfer Portal this year. 16 of 20 have found a new home.
